Director's Note
In recent years, I often have meals with an elderly woman in her 80s and her unmarried daughter in her 60s. The back sight of them leaving together after our meals has left a deep impression on me. I can’t help but wonder what would happen if one of them passed away. Would the other feel lonely? How would they handle death?
Once, my friend’s chicken coop was blown down by the wind, yet the chickens did not escape. This made me think about ideas like "gap," "escape," and "freedom of life," and how they relate to the current state of Hong Kong and the new HK generation.
"After the Cat" is a result of these thoughts and the unexpected moments during filming.
