The autobiographical first feature from HUANG Zi recounts the story of three family members confronting the fatal disease of the father, Weiming. When the mother, Muling, occupies herself with caring for the family, the son Yiming feels lost and vacillates between escape and stay.

The meticulously crafted scenes de-dramatize the threat of cancer, blend reality and imaginary landscape, and arouse mixed emotions with a detailed portrayal of each family member’s individual struggles. The surface always stays still, while the contrast between youth and death, past and future, foreseeable fate and unexpected prospect has generated an affective undercurrent.

Dedicating three chapters to each member of the family, HUANG Zi transforms a seemingly banal story into a touching farewell journey. ALL ABOUT ING is his sincere gesture  to reconcile the relationship with his own deceased father, whom he seldom opened his heart to.
