Director's Note
I am often stalked by flickers of my former self: a kid from rural southwest China, hiding their gender fluidity and queerness, envisioning a future of either restriction or questionable freedom. Back then, even my fantasies were compromised, layering pleasure with disappointment.
For years, I sought to exorcise the residue of that mindset. The catalyst arrived when I unearthed abandoned footage from a video project I shot in 2012/2013. I still don’t fully comprehend what I was trying to capture back then.
Confronting this personal history, this 'film-zombie' became an overdue collaboration between who I am now and the terrified kid I’ve carried with me. By reanimating these forgotten images, we together reconsider what lies ahead.
