In a maternity hospital, an anxious young woman sits on a bench waiting for her B-scan pregnancy test. On accident, she drops a button, she's been rubbing and encounters the woman next to her - someone that looks twice her age.
The two women have a chat, get to know each other's lives, and even begin to share their secrets..."Next patient, Chen Wenyuan. Please enter the B-scan room."
Two women, one button. A soulful encounter in motherhood.
This year marks the third anniversary of Chinese two-child policy. This film is my conversation with a 40-year-old myself, both doing pregnancy tests. One is a self-aware, but unprepared young woman. The other is a disciplined but infertile house wife.
The waiting room is a space for woman-to-woman subjects, a space of female maturity and a space of female recollection and reflection. Through a parallel narrative forming around both reality and inner spaces, the film immerses viewers into a suspenseful and psychological journey. An off-the-trail housewife’s self-pity showcases the female struggles and sentiments after the realization and enlightenment.
