Director's Note

Like many young Tibetans who studied in inland China, I spent much of my childhood and adolescence moving between different spaces and cultures. Every year, I was able to return to Lhasa only during the summer holidays, so my memories of home are pieced together from fragments of those summers. My feelings toward my hometown and toward those who have always remained there are layered and complex.

Through the story of Samgyi’s friendships and family ties across three summers in Lhasa, I hope to reflect both the lives of the youth and the evolving urban landscape of the city, as seen through our own eyes. After graduating from university, I returned to Lhasa and built my life here. To mirror the growth of the young actresses, LINKA LINKA was filmed in four separate phases. It is the first non-propaganda fiction feature film produced in Tibet.
