Director's Note
This film begins with an unusual relationship between a con artist and his mark, and gradually becomes a story about loneliness and unexpected connection. Through their encounter, I wanted to explore how even a relationship built on deception can bring comfort, and how we might learn to live with loneliness rather than escape it. Using the lightness of a sex comedy to approach the contradictions of everyday life, the film lets desire, vulnerability, humor, and tenderness coexist without judging its characters.
As a native of Shenyang, I also wanted to move beyond the familiar image of Northeast China as cold and declining. Filming in the city, I sought to capture its warmth and everyday vitality, as well as the rich inner lives of its people. Through a grounded visual style, I hope to bring these characters and the city they inhabit closer to the audience.
