Director's Note

This short film is a microcosm of the emotions I carried through in my adolescence in China. At the age of thirteen, I visited a chicken processing plant on a school trip. Twenty-one days to hatch, thirty-two to mature, then slaughter. That pressure of maturing has burned through my life like a branding iron.

Scorching portrays a girlwho intentionally breaks that cycle. She transcends not only cultural expectations but her biological form—evolving into something that yet to be defined.
